Major inventory and rollout of new computers My last project was to inventory all 200+ computers on the campus of Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga. I had several simultaneous duties. I was responsible for answering the helpdesk phone. When someone else covered the phone, I roamed the campus recording vital stats on each computer. After the inventory was complete, I was involved in imaging 60 or so new IBM pc’s and then performing machine specific configurations. Each one had to be named and added to the domain. There was a list of other Brenau specific settings that I configured on each box. This was a three month contract and very rewarding. That was in 2005. Support catch up for IT department In another IT department, I filled in for an IT person who was out on medical leave. I routinely responded to user requests for help but the major improvement I made was showing the remaining IT person how to configure DHCP on their NT server. They were using static IP’s for 90+ machines which wasn’t all that bad. Their problem came when visitors from other offices came for meetings with their laptops. Each laptop had to be given a static IP by the IT department. What a nuisance! What a waste of time. After DHCP was enabled, I was responsible for changing over all of the pc’s to DHCP clients Year 2000 upgrades In one IT department, I was responsible for all of the Y2K compliancy upgrades for 200 computers. That was in the fall of 1999. I also upgraded components as needed. |
